The Chinle Service Unit of the Department of Emergency Medical Services is located in the Central part of the Navajo reservation in the state of Arizona.  The Chinle service unit operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week;  it is located within the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility with eleven EMS Intermediate currently in the Paramedic Internship, three Intermediates, three Basic and one First Responder.

The Chinle service unit covers a variety of communities ranging in miles from 15 to 180 round trip;  North communities are Rock Point extending down to Round Rock and Many Farms.  Eastern communities include Lukachukai, Tsaile, Wheatfields and Del Muerto area.  South communities include Canyon De Chelly area down in Nazlini.   West communities include Salina Springs, Cottonwood, Low Mountain, Pinon, Hard Rock,
Rocky Ridge, Forest Lake, Black Mesa, Blue Gap and Rough Rock.  The estimated response time rages from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.  With the assistance of other service units such as Teec Nos Pos EMS, Kayenta EMS, Hopi EMS, Ganado Fire & Rescue, Action Medical Service, Ft. Defiance EMS and Community Health Representatives from each community chapters.

The community of Chinle, Arizona has a high rate of tourism during the spring and summer season.  Tourists travel from all parts of the world to visit Canyon De Chelly National Monument.  We also have a local college, Dine College that is located at Tsaile, Arizona.

Chinle service unit provides Public awareness presentations to describe our services to the community.  We have EMT's who are certified CPR and Medic First Aide Instructors who give courses to teach skills to the community of the Chinle and surrounding areas.

Chinle Emergency Medical Services also assist the community with awareness presentations within the nearby schools such as Chinle Schools, Many Farms School, this includes the Kindergarten Centers and pre-schools, Law Enforcement and the Navajo Nation Fire & Rescue.  The Chinle DEMS office allows the public to come in and attend our continuing education courses to help keep licensure levels up to date for First Responder, Medic First Aide and CPR Students.
