The Department of Emergency Medical Services is one of eight (8) departments within the Navajo Division of Public Safety.
The Department consists of an Administration Office, Two (2) Field Operation Offices, the Training and Technical Assistance Office, a Third Party Billing Section, Property Office and eleven (11) Field Offices. The Operational aspects of Emergency Medical Services are carried out from Indian Health Service hospitals or clinics that are managed by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The Department is affiliated with the University of New Mexico Emergency Medical Services Academy and the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services Bureau. The EMS Academy certifies the Emergency Medical Technicians after they have successfully completed the Emergency Medical Technicians course and requirements. It is also a department requirement to have the different classifications of the Emergency Medical Technicians licensed by the New Mexico Emergency Services Bureau. The functioning of an effective pre-hospital and clinical emergency care system depends on the mutual understanding between different Public Safety entities. The EMS works with all Police Agencies, Fire and Rescue Services, Helicopter air care services and many more agencies.
As a Public Safety Service, the Emergency Medical Services also provides training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)-Medic First Aid or the Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians Basic and the First Responders course.
